A native of Missouri, Dr. Hofherr is currently the Chairman and CEO of St. James Winery.
St. James Winery is a Midwest winery located in St. James, Missouri where it produces 250,000 cases of wine and distributes in 18 states and the District of Columbia. The winery was recently recognized as #14 in the top 100 most awarded Wineries in the World by the World Association of Wine and Spirits Writers and Journalists in their annual ranking.
Dr. Hofherr’s education includes a BS in Microbiology from Auburn University; an MBA with a concentration of Finance from Georgia State University and a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Missouri.
His work experience includes working for Coopers and Lybrand in their Financial Advisory Services consulting group; working for Governor Bob Holden as the Director of Agriculture, Chief of Staff to the Governor for the State of Missouri, as well as various positions with the St. James Winery over the last 20 years.
Dr. Hofherr rejoined St. James Winery in 2007 and is currently serving on Missouri’s Wine and Grape Board as Chairman; the Board of Governors of Missouri State University as Vice-Chairman and on the National Wine and Grape Initiative Board as the Hybrid Species Representative.
In addition to his winery and industry responsibilities, Peter serves as Assistant Director of the McQuinn Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Missouri, Columbia where his research interests include the economics of identity and collective entrepreneurship.
