For 50 years. an unsolved mystery in St. Louis centered around who piloted the small plane that flew through the legs of the newly completed Gateway Arch in 1966. Donna Doris, 75, said the man was her father, Earl Bolin, who was a bit of a daredevil. The family held on to the secret for five decades. According to the Rolla Daily News, the family recently decided to come clean because the stunt was mentioned in a “This Day in History” post in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. A year before the stunt occurred, the FAA warned that any pilot who flew through the legs would be severely penalized.
